OFC First Time Registration

OFC First Time Registration.

If you are applying for OFC Registration for the first time you must meet the criteria below.

You must attach the following:

1. Written confirmation from an OFC TFL confirming scanned Proof of Current certification in CPR level C.

2. Written confirmation from an OFC TFL confirming Pass Grade: 80% (48 correct answers out of 60 questions) on NFLA Fitness Theory Exam

       *it is recommended by the OFC that any person who wishes to write the NFLA Fitness Theory Exam, first completes a course in Fitness Theory or inquires about the OFC TFL tutoring program.  For further information on this option contact OFC Administration at 1 800 671 4632

3. Written confirmation from an OFC TFL confirming successful completion in any one fitness specialty module

The OFC recognizes the following fitness specialty modules:

  • Group Fitness Leader
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • 3rd Age/Older Adult
  • Osteofit
  • Aquafitness
  • Weight Trainer/Resistance Trainer
  • Personal Fitness Trainer

4. Written confirmation from an OFC TFL confirming successful completion of practical assessment of chosen fitness specialty module

5. Written confirmation from an OFC TFL confirming successful completion of Par-Q

 

You are NOT insured or registered until OFC receipt of the above and you receive your OFC Registration card.

You must follow the Scope of Practice as an OFC Fitness Leader failure to do so will result in cancelation of your registration and insurance policy
 

Program Fees

NFLA Theory Exam Fee: $65  plus applicable proctor fee (to be determined by OFC Registered TFL)
Practical Assessment Fee: $100 for all specialty modules except Weight Training and Personal Training (to be determined by OFC Registered TFL)
Theory Exam Re-write Fee: to be determined by OFC Registered TFL

 


OFC Registration and Renewal Criteria

Renewals

Criteria for existing OFC Registration and Certification renewal:

  1. Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR level C.
  2. *New* Instruction/Training hours and CEC Requirements. In order to accommodate all of our members and ensure ongoing commitment to health promotion in Ontario, the OFC has changed it's requirements for member renewal. Combinations of CEC's and instruction/training hours for renewals now offer better flexibility for our members. Please adhere to the following when completing your renewal package.
  • *100 + hours of instruction/training during your two year membership period. 8 CEC's required.
  • *40-100 hours of instruction/training during your two year membership period. 12 CEC's required
  • *Less than 40 hours of instruction/training during your two year membership period. 16 CEC's required.

*Written proof from a facility manager/supervisor or client invoice (s) is required.

* As of July 1st, 2011 OFC members will no longer be able to "bank" CEC's over and above the listed amounts to be used for future renewals.

Membership Level Options:

Level 1 - $205.00 - 2 year membership and 2 year 2 million dollar general commercial liability insurance

Level 2 - $135.00 - 2 year membership without coverage (if you choose this option, please ensure the facility you are employed at offers sufficient coverage).
 

 

NFLA Transfers

The OFC is the registration and certification body for NFLA in Ontario. All certified and registered NFLA members across Canada can transfer their membership with proof of Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, if relocating to Ontario. Investment for each member who holds a current NFLA membership from another province is $100.00 and will be valid for 1 year from the date of transfer. After the initial 1 year transfer period, regular 2 year renewals will commence as well as the renewal requirements above. The OFC recognizes the following specialty certifications:

  • Group Fitness Leader
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • 3rd Age/Older Adult
  • Osteofit
  • Aquafitness
  • Weight Trainer/Resistance Trainer
  • Personal Fitness Trainer*
*Note - Registration and certification for Personal Training requires additional insurance if the member wishes to work with special populations (ie. Osteoporosis, diabetes, severe arthritis etc.) Our Provider offers the most competitive rates for OFC Fitness Leaders and additional insurance can be purchased through them on a yearly basis @ $160.00 per annual renewal. All members certified and registered in any of the noted specialty modules above, NOT INCLUDING Personal Training, will have insurance included with the 1 year transfer fee.


Do you wish to transfer from another organization?

The OFC accepts transfer from other recognized fitness certification organizations. A list of these organizations can be viewed here. All potential OFC members applying to transfer must be currently certified by another recognized organization and will be placed into one of the OFC Specialty Modules. The OFC is the registration and certification body for NFLA in Ontario. Investment for each applicant who holds a current certification membership from another organization is $100.00 and will be valid for 1 year from the date of transfer.
